Manage size while considering the tree’s form
We assess the tree and the space around it before discussing the proposed reduction. Its species, condition, previous cuts and growth pattern affect what is appropriate. We aim to agree a clear scope, including which parts of the crown need attention and how much can reasonably be removed.
Planning the work
Send your postcode, photographs of the whole tree and access route, and a description of what you want to achieve. Mention nearby buildings, fences and planting, along with any known tree protection or previous permissions. We can discuss the appropriate scope, timing and handling of branches and timber before agreeing a quotation.
Second Nature was established in 2008 by Stuart Bingham, whose work in arboriculture began in 1997. Meet our team and see examples of our work.
Your questions answered
Can you make any large tree much smaller?
A severe reduction is not suitable for every tree. We will discuss realistic options rather than promise a fixed percentage before seeing it.
Is crown reduction different from topping?
A planned reduction considers suitable branch positions and the retained crown. Indiscriminately cutting the top off a tree is not an equivalent specification.
